Terms and Conditions
Last updated: June 29, 2026
These Terms and Conditions apply to your use of Captain Frugal and related services. In these Terms, "Captain Frugal," "we," "us," and "our" mean the operator of Captain Frugal.
Captain Frugal is designed for personal and household budgeting. If you use Captain Frugal as a consumer in the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another country with mandatory consumer protections, nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot legally be waived or restricted.
1. What Captain Frugal does
Captain Frugal helps you organize personal or household spending information through budgeting, receipt, planning, reporting, reward, beta, and optional premium features.
Captain Frugal is not a bank, payment provider, broker, lender, insurer, tax adviser, or regulated financial institution. It does not provide regulated financial services unless separate terms and notices clearly say otherwise.
2. No professional advice
Captain Frugal is an organization and budgeting tool. It is not financial, tax, accounting, legal, investment, credit, debt, insurance, benefits, affordability, or other professional advice. Any estimates, summaries, suggestions, messages, or reports are informational only. You remain responsible for your own decisions and records. Get qualified professional advice where needed.
3. Eligibility
You may use Captain Frugal only if you are old enough to create an account and manage personal or household finance information under the laws that apply where you live. Do not use the service if you are not legally allowed to use it or if your use requires parental or guardian consent that has not been obtained.
4. Account responsibility
- You are responsible for the information you provide and the choices you make in the service.
- You are responsible for keeping your account, device, and sign-in methods secure.
- You must not access or use another person's account or data without permission.
- You must keep information reasonably current where needed to operate, secure, or support the service.
- You should keep independent records for any official, tax, legal, reimbursement, or professional purpose.
5. Your content and permissions
You keep ownership of content and information you provide to Captain Frugal. You give Captain Frugal the permission needed to operate, provide, secure, support, improve, and enforce the service, including for any shared household features you choose to use.
This permission does not replace the Privacy Policy. Personal data is handled under the Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law.
6. Privacy and data protection
The Privacy Policy explains how Captain Frugal handles personal data. The Cookie and Analytics Notice explains website analytics choices. The Subprocessors and Transfers page explains provider categories.
These Terms do not replace privacy notices, consent flows, or data protection rights. Where consent is required, it must be requested separately and may be withdrawn where the law allows.
7. AI-assisted receipt scanning
Captain Frugal may use automated or AI-assisted tools to help read, organize, suggest, or summarize information. Those outputs can be wrong, incomplete, duplicated, outdated, or unsuitable for your purpose.
You are responsible for reviewing and correcting important information before relying on it. Do not treat automated outputs as final tax, accounting, reimbursement, employment, legal, credit, investment, insurance, or official records.
8. Household sharing
If you use shared or household features, information may become visible to other people in that space. Invite only people you trust and have authority to include.
Removing someone or leaving a shared space may not erase information already seen, copied, exported, or otherwise retained. Captain Frugal may rely on account and service records when handling access or support issues.
9. Beta access and feedback
Beta access is optional, limited, and not guaranteed. Beta features may be incomplete, unstable, interrupted, changed, removed, or never released. We may accept, decline, pause, or end beta access where needed.
You may send feedback to support@captain-frugal.com. You allow Captain Frugal to use feedback, ideas, bug reports, suggestions, and comments to improve, protect, and operate the service without owing compensation, unless a separate written offer says otherwise. Feedback-related benefits, if any, are discretionary, non-cash, not guaranteed, and may be subject to separate rules.
10. Captain Coins and rewards
Captain Coins and similar rewards are in-app features only. They are not money, financial products, or property rights. They cannot be withdrawn, sold, transferred, exchanged for cash, or redeemed outside Captain Frugal.
Captain Frugal may adjust, suspend, remove, expire, or correct rewards for legitimate operational, legal, security, abuse-prevention, or program reasons, subject to mandatory consumer rights. Promotional benefits do not guarantee ongoing premium access.
11. App license
Captain Frugal gives you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app and website for lawful personal or household budgeting, subject to these Terms and applicable platform terms. You do not receive ownership of the app, software, design system, brand, content, or service infrastructure.
12. Brand, logo, mascot, and IP protection
Captain Frugal owns or controls its name, brand, logos, mascot, artwork, interface, product identity, content, designs, and other intellectual property.
You may not use, copy, imitate, register, modify, distribute, commercialize, train on, scrape for replication, or create derivative works from Captain Frugal materials without prior written permission. You may not use confusingly similar names, marks, designs, domains, handles, products, or services.
You may not suggest sponsorship, endorsement, partnership, official status, resale rights, white-label rights, or access to Captain Frugal assets. Limited truthful references are allowed where the law permits, if accurate, non-misleading, and limited to what is necessary. See the Brand and IP Use Policy.
13. Acceptable use
You must not misuse Captain Frugal or create legal, security, privacy, operational, platform, or brand risk. Prohibited conduct includes:
- fraud, unlawful activity, impersonation, harassment, abuse, or misleading conduct;
- unauthorized access, interference, scraping, automated abuse, reverse engineering, or bypassing service limits where not legally permitted;
- uploading or sharing unlawful, harmful, infringing, or unauthorized content;
- using Captain Frugal for regulated services without proper authorization;
- misusing Captain Frugal materials to create confusion, copies, scams, fake listings, or unauthorized products.
14. Subscriptions and purchases
Captain Frugal may offer free features, beta features, paid plans, subscriptions, in-app purchases, trials, premium previews, or promotional access. Paid offers should be presented with the applicable price, renewal, cancellation, tax, and feature information before purchase.
Purchases made through an app store or other platform may be governed by that platform's terms and account controls. Deleting the Captain Frugal app or account may not cancel a platform subscription. Manage active subscriptions through the relevant platform unless another supported method is clearly provided.
Any refund, withdrawal, cancellation, or statutory remedy rights you have under applicable consumer law or platform rules remain available. Captain Frugal will not intentionally remove mandatory consumer rights through these Terms.
15. Third-party services
Captain Frugal may rely on third-party services to operate, distribute, secure, support, analyze, bill, or enhance the service. Third-party services may have their own terms, privacy notices, availability limits, security controls, and account rules. Captain Frugal is not responsible for third-party services outside its control, but relevant provider categories are described in the Privacy Policy and Subprocessors and Transfers.
16. Availability, updates, and changes to features
We work to keep Captain Frugal useful and reliable, but the service may be interrupted, changed, limited, suspended, or discontinued for legitimate operational, technical, legal, security, platform, abuse-prevention, or product reasons.
For material changes to paid services, we will use reasonable notice where required and will not remove mandatory remedies available under consumer law.
17. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access, remove content, limit features, revoke beta access, adjust rewards, or take other proportionate action if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect Captain Frugal, users, third parties, platforms, the brand, or legal rights.
You may stop using Captain Frugal at any time. You can start account deletion in app settings where available or contact support if you cannot access your account. See Account deletion. Account deletion may not cancel external subscriptions or remove information that must be retained or that another authorized user has already received.
18. Security
We use reasonable measures intended to protect Captain Frugal, but no online service is perfectly secure. You must not test, exploit, bypass, or disclose security issues without written permission. Report security concerns to support@captain-frugal.com.
19. Disclaimers
Captain Frugal is provided as a budgeting and organization tool. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we do not guarantee that the service, outputs, features, rewards, messages, or third-party services will be uninterrupted, error-free, complete, accurate, secure, or suitable for any particular professional, official, financial, tax, legal, accounting, credit, investment, insurance, or reimbursement purpose.
20. Liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Captain Frugal is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of profits; loss of business; loss of data; third-party service issues; or losses caused by misuse, account insecurity, unreviewed information, unavailable records, unmanaged subscriptions, or breach of these Terms.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights, statutory digital-service remedies, data protection rights, fraud, intentional misconduct, or other non-excludable obligations.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time for legitimate legal, operational, security, platform, product, or clarity reasons. For material changes, we will use reasonable notice where practical or required. Continued use after updated Terms become effective means you accept the updated Terms, but updates do not remove mandatory rights that apply to you.
22. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are intended to be interpreted in a way that respects mandatory consumer protections in the country where you live. If a governing law is specified by Captain Frugal, consumers may still rely on mandatory protections available under the laws of their country of residence where those protections cannot be waived.
If you have a concern, contact support first so we can try to resolve it. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from contacting a consumer protection authority, data protection authority, app platform, court, or other competent authority where you have that right.
